NYPD cop claims he was fired after hemp soap caused positive drug test
This cop’s bathing ritual has turned into a soap opera.
In a predicament straight out of “Seinfeld,” an NYPD officer claims his organic hemp soap caused him to fail a departmental drug test and ultimately, lose his job.
Like Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character Elaine Benes on the hit series — who blamed a poppy seed muffin for causing a positive drug test that cost her job — Officer Jeremy Jacinto says he was a regular user of Dr. Bronner’s All-One Hemp Almond Pure-Castile bar soap, which includes organic hemp seed oil.
In September, Jacinto was called in for an end-of-probation physical and drug test, he said in a Manhattan Supreme Court filing against the city and the NYPD.
A couple of weeks later, he was told he failed the drug test and was suspended.
After a brief reinstatement, Jacinto was terminated in December, according to court papers.
He wants the court to overturn the decision, and calls the soap a “legal, over-the-counter healthcare product.”
The city Law Department said it would review the case.
The NYPD declined to comment on the litigation.
